Bill and Colonel Pattillo
Pictured with Bill is his long time friend, Colonel Ladd Pattillo. Ladd is an Austin attorney who handles bond work for Travis County. Additionally he has served as a member of the Eanes Independent School District Board. Both Bill and Ladd are Colonels in their respective services. Ladd is an Army reservist and Bill an Air Force reservist. They were together in Washington D.C. during the first week of February for an annual convention of the Reserve Officers Association where Bill was a guest speaker at the conference leadership seminar.
At the time of this photo Ladd was still on active duty orders, having just returned from a tour of duty in Iraq. His unit was responsible for security of Baghdad International Airport. He spent nearly six months there as Deputy Commander of Dragon Brigade (an active duty Army unit).
It’s interesting to note that Ladd retired from the Army reserve nearly five years ago. In March of 2005 the Army called and asked him if he would be willing to accept a six month return to active duty to handle the important duties he has just completed. He willingly accepted and put his very successful law practice on hold in order to answer the call to duty. In addition his son is a member of the Army and was stationed just north of Baghdad during the same period. Ladd traveled to his son’s base on Christmas day and Father and son had Christmas dinner together in the war zone.
“This is a story of remarkable service to our Country and the cause of freedom, I’m very proud and honored to have Ladd Pattillo as my good friend. May God bless and keep him and his family. Thank you for your service Ladd.” Bill Welch
